I wanted to follow up on your request to drop your medical coverage and provide some clarification.
Under our benefits plan and IRS regulations, employees are only allowed to make changes to medical coverage outside of open enrollment if they experience a qualifying life event (such as marriage, divorce, birth/adoption of a child, or loss of other coverage). Since none of those qualifying events apply in this case, the system does not allow us to remove coverage at this time.
As a result, your medical coverage will need to remain in place until our next open enrollment period, which will take place in March 2027. At that time, you’ll be able to make changes to your coverage, including waiving medical benefits if you choose.
I understand this can be frustrating, and I appreciate your understanding of the rules we’re required to follow. If your situation changes and you do experience a qualifying life event before then, please let me know within 30 days so we can review your options.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to talk this through.
Warm regards,
Ericka
